Reflecting its commitment to make a difference in the lives of young people in the communities it serves, Cumberland Farms launched its Corporate Giving Program for Youth on July 28, 2006, at the Dartmouth Street entrance of the Boston Public Library.
Cumberland Farms CEO Lily Bentas announced two significant gifts to inaugurate the program. The first provides need-based college scholarships to 100 high school students across its 11 state service area. Second, Cumberland Farms is now funding a 4-H Youth in Action Grants Program to benefit 5,000 youth and 1,500 adult volunteers at 50 local 4-H clubs and 4-H Afterschool sites across its service region.
Ms. Bentas announced the initiative at the site of Patches the Cow, an art installation the company sponsored as part of Boston's "Cow Parade" fundraiser that benefits Jimmy Fund/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The company selected "Patches" for its motto: Children are the fabric of a community.
"Cumberland Farms recognizes that our youth are our most precious resource," Ms. Bentas said. "We are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of young people. We want our corporate giving program to be a vehicle that supports and improves the circumstances for the next generation."
Three key missions underpin the Cumberland Farms Corporate Giving Program for Youth:
- Improve the prospects for young people
- Encourage and support young people's achievements in business and leadership
- Provide educational opportunities for young people in the communities Cumberland Farms serves
